MACON, Georgia June 14, 2006 A special unit titled, “Approaching a Missional Mindset” appears in the May-August 2006 edition of adult Formations Sunday school materials, and is slated for use from July 9-30.
The study is written by Dr. Bo Prosser, Coordinator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s Congregational Life initiative. Prosser describes the focus of the study, “In the 1950s, most churchgoers worshiped in the same ways, heard the same texts preached, and studied the same Sunday school lessons. Sometimes I miss those ‘good ol’ days.’ However, the world isn’t the same as it was then. The kind of church that worked then probably wouldn’t thrive now. Today, we must be the church in a new place, in unimagined ways, and with a wider range of people. We are called to the radical and refreshing challenge of developing a ‘missional lifestyle’.”
The study includes learner’s materials, teaching materials, and commentary. During July, the study will also be supported with current event connections and other resources through Smyth & Helwys Premium, an online resource to which every printed Formations Teaching Guide includes access.
Churches wishing to conduct the study can still order printed copies of Formations, while supplies last. Smyth & Helwys is also making “Approaching a Missional Mindset” available as a digital download at www.NextSunday.com.
