A Heart for Missions

Antioch Baptist Church in Enfield, NC, utilized the excellent VBS resource "A Heart for Missions" in July 2002. As part of that weeklong VBS, we sponsored the North Carolina Medical/Dental bus to come to our church for two days and provide free dental care for indigent children and adults in our rural area. The children were able to participate in hands-on missions by preparing dental hygiene kits as one of our craft projects. They distributed the kits to persons who came for the free dental care. The children also watched the volunteer dentists as they provided much-needed assistance to persons who could not afford dental care. The children also took hygiene kits to our local homeless shelter. It was the most meaningful VBS we have ever had!

"Our Vacation Bible School this year was outstanding. We used the A Heart for Missions series. It was the best VBS I have been associated with in my sixteen years of ministry. I had children, including my own, share with me how much they learned and how much fun it was. My director shared with me that a number of workers told her to go ahead and sign them up for next year. The thematic approach is great and the children and leaders love the movement from place to place. This makes it more interesting and thereby the children retain more of what they are being taught. The craft emphasis on doing things for others in the community made that part of the week more Christ-centered, doing for others instead of for self. It was also an effective witness to our community in showing we care and left a lasting impression of the special needs of our community."
