Why Scope & Sequence Is Important in Formations
Scope and sequence is the organizing principle used to determine the Scripture, theme, and focus for individual sessions as well as units of study in Formations. It is helpful for church leaders, Sunday school teachers, and adult learners to know the breadth and balance of the lessons studied over time. The goal of Formations is to help adult believers develop their faith through a systematic and comprehensive study of the Bible in a manner relevant to their daily living. Formations helps adults recognize God's work in their lives and the world.
The foundation for Formations Scope and Sequence is the Bible -- what we know God has done in the past. It explores the witness of our ancestors in faith, but it does not stop there, for God continues to speak to each believer through our calling and experience. As disciples of Jesus, our task is to learn from the Scripture, to listen for what God has to say to us, and to respond as God calls us. Our sequence of study guides learners toward understanding of and participation in the life of the church. Formations provides nourishment for spiritual growth and practice while deepening faith in God. Every year, learners will have the opportunity to survey and experience a variety of biblical and spiritual topics. |
