A Moment of Peace and Quiet
Meditations for Teachers
Preface
"All our troubles in life come because we refuse to sit quietly for a while each day in our room."
We often start a school day in a rush of activity, forgetting to make room for the most important thing: a moment of peace and quiet. As the day goes on, we gain more and more momentum until we are traveling at what seems to be the speed of light. As classroom teachers, we need to take time to pause, take a deep breath, and think about what we want the day to be. Sometimes the chance to steal a moment
doesn't occur until lunchtime or even until the last bell of the school day rings. It is vital, however, that we make some time for ourselves so that we can become the teachers we want to be. After twenty-five years of teaching I suddenly realized that if I gave myself just a few minutes of peace and quiet before school began, I could start the day focused, centered, and filled with energy.
This book is designed for that sliver of quiet time that you can call your own. There are various options for its use. You could start at the beginning of the book and work your way to the end, or open it to a random selection, or choose a topic in the index that fits a concern in your life or a mood you are feeling. Whichever option you choose, you will find a reflection for every school day and additional selections for the week before school starts and the first week of summer break.
I hope you will find something on each page that will help you find a moment of peace and quiet. |
