Textbook Examination & Desk Copy Policy

Exam Copy Request

Smyth & Helwys Publishing will provide examination copies of books to professors who wish to review titles for classroom adoption according to the following policies: Click here to fill out an exam copy request form
I. The request for an examination copy must be submitted in writing, by mail, by fax, by form (click here)or by email on the school's letterhead with an indication:
A. of the course for which the title is being considered,
B. of the expected enrollment (minimum of 5),
C. and of the semester/quarter of possible use, to the attention of the Textbook/Marketing Department.
II. The publisher provides single copies only and reserves the right to refuse any examination request.

III. The professor will be billed at a 50% discount, plus shipping, net 90 days. At the end of the 90 days, the professors has three options:

A. The professor can notify the Textbook/Marketing Department that the book has been adopted as a text. The following polices govern the adoption of a text:
i. You must provide the semester/quarter of use as well as your bookstore's purchase order number for the book that has been adopted.

ii. The invoice, then, will be credited as gratis, making the book a desk copy.

iii. The book will be gratis if, and only if, you—the professor—or the school bookstore provides the information as stated above.

iv. Otherwise, you will be charged for the book, with accumulating finance charges until the necessary information is provided.

B. The professor can choose not to adopt the book, but keep it and pay the invoice at the special 50% discount plus shipping and handling.

C. The professor can return the book in resalable condition for credit of the price of the book at the 50% discount. The shipping and handling charges will not be cancelled.

Desk Copy Request

A professor who has adopted a Smyth & Helwys title for classroom use, and has not been sent an examination copy may request a complimentary desk copy (click here). Requests for desk copies should be directed to the Textbook/Marketing Department, listing the title, course, semester/quarter of use and enrollment (minimum of 5). Desk copies are limited to single copies.
